When was the last time you had a hearty laugh in the cinema? and when was the last time you thought the movie was your money's worth? If you don't quite remember then here's one movie you'll remember!
Yaamirukka Bayamey, directed by Deekay follows a simple approach in executing a simple story. The director, a debutant, who is also the writer has not complicated his screenplay with unwanted frills. His formula of entertainment is quite impressive thanks to ample dosage of humour.
The movie fits in to the horror genre but not restricted to it. Perhaps one could even classify it in the comedy genre as well but not on the lines of "Scary Movie" or the lot. The entire family can go and laugh their bellies out.
An old story of a haunted house and how the inmates deal with the problems that arise has been shown in a new and entertaining way. Lead roles played by Kreshna, Rupa Manjari, Oviya and Karunakaran do their job with ease. Their roles are not that demanding but their timing has been captured well. Credits to the actors, yes but the crew that worked behind the scenes make this movie a pleasure to watch.
Full marks for re-recording and music, handled by Prasad. The jerks and shudders make you glued to the seats. Not to forget one melodious song shot in Nainital. One song with Mayilsaami seemed unnecessary curbing the pace of the movie but senior editor Sreekar Prasad has done an immensely great job.
While sound and editing do play a major role in a horror movie, light and camera make the other part. Cinematographer Rammy has played well with his lens and with effective lighting, the visuals make you keep one hand on your face in anticipation of fear.
Comedy is the USP of Yaamirukka Bayamey. The director has managed to balance the fear part with the comedy to an extent but sometimes the comedy weighs a little more. At times you hear the audience laughing well before a thrilling scene shapes up or may be because of their anxiety.
Laughter over popcorn, adding humour to the likes of 'The Ring' or 'Conjuring' and funnier than scenes on the comedy channels on TV, Yaamirukka Bayamey is a great summer refreshment! Laugh it loud!
